You might know that I’m a fan of Walmart’s ad match program – particularly here in Florida where I’m lucky to be able to take advantage of Walmart’s BOGO ad match as well! But, a new way to save money at Walmart is coming real soon and through my participation in the Walmart Moms program, I got a sneak peek at their new Savings Catcher feature and I’m excited to share the news with you so you can see how easy it’ll be to save when you shop at Walmart! I tested out Savings Catcher a few times during it’s beta testing, but starting this coming Monday, August 4, 2014, you’ll be able to start using it yourself, as Savings Catcher will be available nationwide! Read on to learn how to use Savings Catcher – won’t this be great when shopping for back to school supplies in a few weeks?

How to Use Walmart Savings Catcher to Save Money

The process of using Savings Catcher at Walmart is really simple. After making your normal purchase in store, you then visit the Savings Catcher website, enter your receipt number (located on the bottom of your receipt), and wait for an email from Walmart notifying you on whether or not lower prices were found from competitors in your area. Make sure you enter your receipt within 7 days of your purchase, otherwise your receipt won’t be valid! (You’ll soon be able to scan the receipt bar code into Savings Catcher using the Walmart mobile app and won’t even have to logon to the website, making this even easier!)

When I tested out Savings Catcher, after I entered my receipt number, I received a confirmation email stating that my receipt was received and would be processed. After Walmart searched local competitors for lower prices, it took about a day and a half for me to get my results in a second email. However, it can take up to 72 hours to get your results and find out if you received any savings. My savings on that particular receipt were just under a dollar, but the great thing is that I have the option of cashing out my savings even at that low amount if I choose to, or I can let my savings accumulate and cash out when they reach a higher amount! Savings are redeemed via a Walmart Rewards eGift Card, which is sent via email for you to use on purchases in store or online at

I would rather use a price match list service like and price match at the store and then submit my receipt to see if they find any other deals so I am still shopping from the sales and not just hoping that my groceries are on sale. I would much rather save money from the beginning and know that I will get the savings.

if you log into your Walmart Savings Catcher account, and choose the “contact us” button at the bottom of the page, there’s an option to resend the e-gift card to your email address. I had to do this, as I never received the original email, and it sent it to me immediately! hope this helps!!

Hello. I can’t access my Savings Catcher. I know I had a balance of $2.50. In my 2nd attempt, I was provided with the Savings Catcher team tel # and an email address “”. They said I could email the info from the receipt so they would not expire. I did and received an email saying “sorry, please call 866-224-1663”. I have tried calling 866-224-1663 at 9AM and at 4:30 PM Eastern time, and a recording said to “call back during working hours” and hung up on me. It does not provide the working hours. This is really a guessing game. I feel like not purchasing anything at Walmart because it seems it’s all a big lie.

Can you purchase anything with your rewards? Except alcohol and tobacco products, one website gave a huge list of things you can’t buy which sounded like every department besides clothes and food but then others say you can buy anything except alcohol or tobacco….someone please clarify this for me, I’d feel real stupid buying a Xmas gift only to be rejected because its not an item I can purchase with saving catcher rewards.

I’m noticing that most of my larger receipts I can’t enter purchased dates, therefore I’m loosing the chance to check for saving. I’ve emailed several times with complaint but real solution to the problem. I just tried one and it didn’t work.

I have applied for bluebird, was getting the savings back on gift card and now I am trying to link the bluebird to the account and it doesn’t give me the option anymore, which sucks, so I have called customer service and all I am being told they will send it to higher authority because they cannot figure out why it is doing this I have 3 pending receipts I hope I don’t lose all my savings on all them and the cash left there now

I tried to use my almost 30$ in savings, and it said its already been used. I have been scanning recepts for such a long time now, and was so excited to finally get to use the money…. I have been trying to get some sort of help and cannot seem to find any 🙁

Everyone having trouble with their egift card, just open the email, make sure you click show images and the barcode is in the email. It took me forever to figure it out. The gift card is sent in the email you just have to make sure you click show images to see the barcode. Hope this helps.

I downloaded the Walmart app on my android phone last month (Jan. 2015). Really like the savings catcher until today. So far I have $.76, which is a great start. Today when I scanned receipt I got this msg: “Receipt not eligible-Sorry, this receipt is not eligible for Savings Catcher price comparison. The purchase was made before the Saving Catcher program was launched in the store you visit”. It’s the same store I have been shopping since it opened in the 90’s and the same store whose receipts I have been scanning since January of this year. Now because I did my major shopping trip ($140.12) Savings Catcher is shutting me down and won’t accept my receipt? Who do I complain too? This is just wrong!

The instructions for obtaining another copy of the receipt on the Walmart FAQ page are incorrect. They tell you to do things that are impossible. I cannot find the “menu” they say to go to.

I purchased a Bluebird card on 2\23\15 and registered the card. When I attempted to redeem my points from Savings Catcher, the program refused to go past Redeem. I finally called American Express and was told it was a software problem, that a ticket had been issued regarding the problem, and it would be fixed by 2\26\15. I again tried to redeem my points on 2\26\15, the next day, and again today, but to no avail. It continues not to work.
I emailed customer service with Wal-Mart and was told they can’t help and referred me to this site. I am very frustrated with this situation. What can be done to remedy this?

It would seem that it is not accepting orders online. I have tried entering in the #from the email and the receipt also both dates. That being the day I paid and the day I picked up. So how does it work exactly when you do order online. I have 3 orders in the last week, its not accepting any???

Gerrilynn, redeeming means you “withdrew” the money and requested an ecard, not that you’ve used the ecard. I would check your email to find the ecard, or try calling the support number I provided for more help.

If the only way to redeem accumulated savings is through email on an e-gift card or Bluebird card, what is the advantage of adding physical Wal-Mart gift cards to the savings catcher account? At the moment I use my mobile phone to scan my e-card because I do not have an available printer to print the e-card but the cashiers too often are unable to get the scan to read. I thought to add one of my many gift cards that have small amount balances on them to my account. To be able to redeem the savings onto a physical card would be fantastic, but I hesitated to do so because it does not appear that an accumulated savings can be redeemed or loaded onto a physical card. If this is true, then again I ask, what is the purpose of having the option to add five cards to a savings catcher account?

Lisa, I sent your question to the Walmart team. Here is their response:

“Due to the difficulty that the customer described with the eGift card, many of our customers use the Bluebird card since it’s a physical card. We’ve been unsuccessful in getting a physical Savings Catcher gift card issued.

There should only be 1 eGift Card tied to the customer’s Savings Catcher account. If the customer wants a physical card within Savings Catcher, BlueBird is a good option.

If the customer doesn’t have a printer and the store cannot scan direct from the phone (not all stores have this capability), the customer should be able to show their eGift Card to the cashier, who can type in the GC number for redemption.”

Love ? savings catcher… Got full use of when they doubled the saving, my goal was $25 before cut off date… Passed it. Still using it and just applied $4.99 from 2 receipts and one that said didn’t find any. Never have had a problem, didn’t do anything before shopping, the hard part was making my finger do some physical work by entering my receipt #…… Point and tap, point and tap and repeat 1,2,3… ?

Your savingcatcher site is denying access to my account from my server. I have tried repeatedly and NOTHING, I cannot access at all…I have had trouble with my receipt being denied (says tc # wrong) , site not accepting my receipt,(past 7 days date- and is NOT). Please advise me on this issue!!

Reward dollars are redeemed as an egift card you can then use at Walmart, so I think you can use it to purchase any product, but I would contact Walmart to verify.

It’s the crooks at Walmart’s Ivory Tower taking your reward money that you spent time to save a little and followed each step so you could spend your savings on something else.

I too have lost all my savings that I accumulated the second I clicked on ‘Redeem’. I have now accumulated more dollars and want to purchase something special on-line but feel my savings will again be sucked from my computer into the pockets of a Walmart Executive’s pocket when I attempt to cash in. Isn’t that the way, the rich get richer and the poor get scr**ed !!!!

Do something Walmart or eliminate this useless program !!!!

So every time I submitted a receipt; I got a little back. Each time; I hit redeem and got the confirmation email (with the barcode) to use in store. However I’ve done that 10 times and never used any of the money; if I use my most recent email with a barcode (in store) will it only have the .97 cents from that it be receipt, or will it have the total $20 that I have transferred throughout the past year?

You have to redeem receipts within 7 days, so it’s possible it was already expired for savings catcher.

There should be an option within your Walmart app for redeeming your reward dollars so that you can receive an egift card to the email you used within the mobile app. The only other thing I can suggest is to contact the number I’ve posted above or go to the Savings Catcher FAQ page.

A number of my receipts have been rejected, stating they are invalid, but I know
that is not the case. I reentered them many times but was still rejected. Is this a scam or is there some other problem. I’m 70 years old, and in today’s world for me every penny helps.

Receipts that are older than 7 days or are from purchases are invalid for Savings Catcher. Perhaps the receipts that were rejected fit into those categories?

Within the Walmart mobile app and within the savings catcher area, there is a “more info & help” option. Click on “get help” and scroll down to a link that says “contact us” so you can submit your request to Walmart.

I received an email yesterday telling me I got back $2.09. When I went to the app, I checked my Reward Dollars, it showed I had only $12.51. I had $21+ last month. It also shows that I started this app in Jan 2016. I started it in 2014. I’m very bummed cause Hawaii (where I live) doesn’t get money back as much as the mainland does. So it takes a bit to get money accumulate. I hope I’m able to retrieve my money back.???

Denise, within the walmart mobile app, you should see a button to redeem the money you have earned so far. That is how you transfer it to your e-giftcard. Hope that helps!

Hi! I tried to redeem my $74 and hit the redeem button on my phone. Now it says dollars have been redeemed and balance is zero. Never received an email in my inbox or junk mail. I have tried calling the number you provided above and it always says call back during normal business hours. I go to the contact us as you suggested and click where it says to resend my gift card. Then it says request cannot be fulfilled you do not have an active savings catcher rewards egift card?? Help!

Mine doesn’t even give me the option to upload it to a gift card anymore. I used to be able to redeem and it would email me a receipt & put it on a gift card in my acct. Now the only option it to sign up for the blue bird card. I guess this is the only way to do the savings catcher now? I loved just hitting redeem and it just showing up as a gift card in my email/account. I don’t want the hassle of signing up for a card.

I have over 50.00 saved on my card, but about 1 every 2 months it starts saying my password and email are not correct, this is so frustrating and I know they are correct, because they are saved in my tablet and phone, I ask for a verification code and ever get it.

I had $38 on my savings catcher and it’s gone! This happened to a friend of mine last year! Last weekend after going to Walmart…when we got home I immediately tried to enter my receipt (20 minutes after leaving the store). I got a reply back that the receipt had already been submitted. That’s not possible!!! I had just gotten home. We went yesterday and once again when I got home I entered my receipt…and my $38 balance was gone! What the heck?
