Would you Hire a Maid?

March 15, 2008 By Melanie Edwards 8 Comments

I saw a maid at the neighbor’s house earlier this week. It made me think…

Would I ever hire a maid to help out around the house? Even if it was just once a month?

I’ve spoken before about the high expectations I’ve set for myself.

Would hiring a maid bring shame to my housekeeping abilities?

Or, is it ok to ask for help every once in a while?

Is it really admitting defeat?

Tell me – would you hire a maid if you could?

Loved it? Share!

I am always thinking I would love to have a maid, but I pretty sure I am one of those people who would clean before the maid comes so she would not think I am a slob.

Households with two working parents should (if they can) hire someone to clean their home. Working mothers have enough to do — having the carpets cleaned and house tidied up (dusting, mopping, toilet cleaning) done by someone else can give you back precious time to spend with your family. If money is the reason to not do it, then by all means don’t, but if it’s guilt you need to consider rethinking how you feel about this and the benefits it can bring to you.

Thanks Alicia for the great feedback. Sometimes us mamis just need to let go of the guilt.

I would be elated to have someone take on the chores for me once in a while. Once a month would be a great start! They would be able to detail clean where I don’t have time to. A friend of mine hired a cleaning company to come in once a month when she was pregnant and she loved the extra help. She loved it so much that she kept them on well after the baby was born. Sometimes you have to be a little selfish to keep balance in your life!

I went through this dilemma a while back but then Husband got me maid service for a year (over a year ago). I was nervous but I got over it. It is so great to come home and have things sparkling clean! We did every 2 weeks but now do 1x a month. And yes, I pick up before they come. Just a little.
