What do Top Bloggers Say About Making Money Blogging?

March 29, 2010 By Melanie Edwards 18 Comments

One of the reasons I started blogging is because I was looking for ways to work from home just 6 months after giving birth to my daughter. As I was researching possible ways for me to leave my secure salary behind and make money online, I came across a site whose only suggestion was to “start a blog.” It went on to provide step by step instructions on how to set up a blog for free using Blogger, how to find possible content, and how to add Google ads to your blog. And, as simple as that, it left you to go on your merry way to begin your blogging career.

Of course, anyone who has been blogging for a while knows that it’s not that simple. Not all blogs make money and not all that do make a lot of money. There are a variety of ways to make money from your blog, with advertising and affiliate marketing being the most popular methods. Many people actually make money indirectly from their blog by selling products, consulting services, or freelancing.

If you’re looking to monetize your blog or find other ways to make money blogging, check out what these well-known bloggers have to say on the topic.

You are on the right track as while there are many free tools, ad networks and other resources out there the key is to choose which works for you. Overall, traffic will determine the ability to monetize a blog, however as that is difficult the best advice is to have patience, write good content, consistently and work with partners (blogs, journalists, networks) that you trust.

I think you're absolutely right that everyone will find a combination of revenue sources that will work for them. There's not one specific formula out there.

I love this article Melanie. If I could add to this, I think that the key to monetizing and make money blogging is to focus on being authentic first, strategically attracting and capturing your target market, and fnally, providing them solutions to their problems (or addressing their concerns with content, rich media and valuable services) that is relevant. It must speak directly to their needs.

Then when its time to work your article marketing and affiliate partnerships, they have already done something that is SO very hard to do in this day and age (both personal and professional)… build TRUST.

As a Work At Home Mom (WAHM) and Mompreneur, I am able to engage, solve and entertain my clients, fans and subscribers by offering, asking, and then delivering on “their” needs and theirs alone.

        Great post
