Saving for College with the Florida Prepaid Program

October 20, 2017 By Melanie Edwards Leave a Comment

Having completed the bulk of my schooling in the state of Florida, I can remember when my parents enrolled me in the Florida Prepaid Program. I have to thank my parents’ planning and foresight as a contributor to my success in college; the money they saved plus scholarships I was awarded helped ease the financial burden and nearly paid for all of my college education. Now, with a daughter that just began middle school, saving for college is on our minds. That’s why I’m happy to be partnering with the Florida Prepaid Program for this post so I can learn more about our college savings options and pass that information on to you!

Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans: Open Enrollment Has Begun!

Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans: Open Enrollment Has Begun!

The Florida Prepaid Program offers several options to choose from when planning for your child(ren)’s secondary education. From 1-year to 4-year plans for both state colleges and universities, you can compare each option and estimate cost on the Florida Prepaid website. There are plenty of tools available to help you learn about Florida Prepaid college savings plans. From brochures, FAQs, plan comparison tools, and even cost calculators, you can find a lot of information to help you choose the right plan for your child(ren) and feel more secure about their college education.

It’s important to note that one of the main choices you can make is to choose either a prepaid plan or a savings plan (or both). You can thoroughly compare both plans to see which is the right fit for your family, but one of the main differences is that a prepaid plan basically prepays the future costs of college at today’s prices, while a savings plan is an investment option. Both plans have their benefits, so it’s worth your time to browse your options and see which is best for your child(ren).

Even though the thought of my daughter starting college in just a few years (and her younger brother just 5 years after that!) is a bit overwhelming, I’m excited to learn that we can help provide for their secondary education. With some early planning and budgeting, my children can know that the financial burden of college will be eased. It’s a great investment to make and I’m happy that programs like Florida Prepaid make it easy for us parents to do so!

To learn more about Florida Prepaid and begin planning for your child(ren)’s college savings, be sure to browse all the resources and information on the Florida Prepaid website. We also have a code for you to save $25 off the application fee during open enrollment- simply use Mami1718! Open enrollment for the prepaid plan is going on right now through February 28, 2018!
