Guitar Hero Latino? Anyone?

June 24, 2009 By Melanie Edwards 74 Comments

Have you played Guitar Hero? I didn’t get into it at first; it was mostly my husband who played. But, then we bought Guitar Hero World Tour, which has not just guitars, but also a microphone and drums. Now we all get to play along.

It’s like our own little band. Me on vocals and baby girl on drums accompanying the husband on guitar. (Shhh…don’t tell her the drums aren’t actually connected!)

Last Thanksgiving, some extended family visited and we had a great big karaoke party playing Guitar Hero. It was probably the most fun Thanksgiving I’ve ever had. The kids were not just in a corner playing on their own while the adults talked. It was one big collaborative effort with the kids and adults actually engaging with each other.

But, then our family got to thinking. What if there was a Guitar Hero Latino version? How awesome would that be? We could sing and play along to some great Spanish songs.

You know how certain songs are introduced to the new generation either because an artist they know redoes the song or they hear the songs in video games or TV? For example, Guitar Hero World Tour has songs like Beat It and Livin’ on a Prayer. These are songs that I’m sure my 12 year old nephew or my own daughter would probably not know if it wasn’t for this game. I mean, she might hear the songs from us playing them around the house, but she wouldn’t know them. At the very least, they probably wouldn’t think it was cool since “the old people” listen to them.

The same could happen, but with Spanish songs. And it would be fun!

Of course, some modifications need to be made to the system. The drums would probably need to be more like bongos and you’d probably want the guitar to sound more like a Spanish guitar, not an electric guitar.

What do you guys think? Have you enjoyed Guitar Hero? Wouldn’t a Latino version be fun?

Any Guitar Hero folks out there? How about it?

I agree, great idea. You know how much Chris is into guitar hero so you bet I would be there right along with him. Of course I wouldn’t understand most of what the songs were about but when it comes to guitar hero who cares, its the rythm that matters. Hey maybe if this gets made, they will make a reggae one also … hmmmm.

I’m from Puerto Rico and I love rock in spanish especially from the 90’s!! Althought I hate Mana… But since the first Guitar Hero and Rock Band came out I hoped that they made a version with latin rock and in my opinion I’d REALLY love that they put in it: Los Rabanes, La Secta All Star (but only their old songs because the new ones suck), Skape, Caramelos De Cianuro, La Ley, and so on. If I kept goind I wouldn’t finish. Anyways in conclusion I’d LOVE it if they made a Guitar Hero of Latin Rock and I just wanted to express myself so thanks for allowing me it. =)

your right this is such a great idea, latin music is so passionate and so consuming that when you listen to it and play it, its so easy to get lost in it you can easily find yourself lost in a trance enjoying every second. A Latin american guitar hero would be more fun than anyone can imagine i know, . . .
i love salsa, merengue, bachata, but i know all types have the same affect.

ps. i would love to play suavemente by elvis crespo on guitar hero.

I’d love to play spanish Rock!! I played guitar hero once at my sister’s house and we had a good time but if we could rock to our favorite songs, that would be awesome. I grew up with groups like Flans, pandora, Timbiriche, Mana….and singers like Alejandra Guzman! I would love to play guitar hero with these rockers!

I think a Latino Guitar Hero would open up the market to a whole new group of players!

I am 30, my nephews got me into video games, Later they introduced Rock Band and Guitar Hero, I gotta say I was over joyed playing these games.. When I found out they made a Metallica game I went nuts cause its my favorite band. Metallica’s game hit so hard that I even got my mother to come over and sing some songs she learned while yelling at me to turn it down, then when World tour came out with la bamba and eye of the tiger she decided that Saturdays is family game night, but we do feel somewhat empty due to the lack of Spanish, We need a little Spanish Rock, but we need some Puerto Rican salsa or Bolero, Some Mexican “sing at the top of your lungs” Juan Gabriel and Some Dominican Bachata. Think of it like a party, when people get together they put on music that makes you vibe, I have non-Spanish speaking friends that ask me to make them several Spanish mixed C.D.s for parties.. I actually came across this site because I just got a text from my mother who herd a rumor that it might be in the works and wanted to know if it was true. Look at the time people! 2am and she calls for this! lol. We need it, it would be great.. And dont feel bad, my song plays the unplugged drums too and makes fun of us cause he never gets boo’s off stage. Save my email, lets follow up!

I'VE BEEN THINKING OF THIS SINCE THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED! I'm from Puerto Rico too, and I would absolutely LOVE to play: Mana, Shakira, La Secta, Ricky Martin, Soda Stereo, Cultura Profetica, Cafe Tacuba, Enanitos Verdes, Gloria Trevi, Belanova, Manu Chao, Ricardo Arjona, and more. Theres is also a lot of artists that sing both spanish and english and that would be great too. This would obviously be a product for spanish speaking people, it would be really hard for other people to learn the lyrics. They sould really make the spanish rock band hero and just market it for latin american people. I would definitly buy it!!

I'm glad you agree! But, I don't think this would ONLY be a product for Spanish speakers. I think even those that don't would enjoy the music and playing along on the guitar/drums. And, like you said, there are many Latino artists that have songs in English and Spanish, so those songs could be used.

I’ve been wanting this since I purchased Guitar Hero World Tour. They can easily make a Spanish Rock version of Guitar Hero. We have plenty of talented rock bands. They can even make a Latin version that includes Bachata being that Bachata is all about the guitar.

I’ve been googling Guitar Hero Latino & Guitar Hero Spanish version and got your site. I’m surprised that they still haven’t come out with this version yet. They’d make a killing in Latin America & here in the US. My family would love to play this at our get together.

How can we go about petitioning the company to produce a Spanish version? Have you heard of any other corporation making something similar? It’s such a great opportunity & untapped market!

I just played Guitar Hero last night for the first time ever at my sister’s friends’ house & I’m hooked. I wish there was a Spanish version to share with my Mom, aunts, uncles & cousins! I’d vote for including all genres and old time artists too like Rocio Durcal and Luis Miguel. That way everyone in the family of all ages could participate. It’d be hilarious watching & videotaping my older relatives belt out tunes like young kids.

Do you know if anything’s in development with artists like Mark Anthony and Gloria Estefan. I imagine that this would be a lucrative licensing deal for so many Latin American artists given the ardent interest of millions of fans like us. I’m always surprised at how late in the game American companies get when they realize the profit potential of the Hispanic market. I’m probably typical of that widespread demographic – first generation, one Latino parent, bilingual & bicultural, with a large extended family of aunts, uncles & cousins who get together often for family parties and dinners. Having a Spanish version of Guitar Hero with a mix of genres to appeal to all generations would unite the family even further. I would buy it in a heartbeat & I don’t even play video games.
