5 Tips for Hosting a Large Family Gathering in Your Backyard This Summer!

I’ve mentioned that our family enjoys getting together for various occasions and that we don’t shy away from large family gatherings. It’s always fun to see extended family and friends, catch up, and reminisce. With a big gathering also comes the planning and hosting to ensure your guests have a great time, all while keeping your sanity. After planning several of my own family gatherings, I’ve learned a few tricks that will help you host a wonderfully fun party! Check out these simple tips to make your family gatherings easier this summer using products you can easily find at your local Walmart.

5 Tips for Hosting a Large Family Gathering in Your Backyard!

5 Tips for Hosting a Large Family Gathering in Your Backyard!

1. Use tubs or coolers for self-serve drinks: Instead of having to pour out a drink every time a guest needs one, it’s much easier for everyone if you set up a plastic tub or cooler full of ice and beverages. This also keeps your guests from needing to constantly open your fridge to get a drink! We normally set up one tub with water bottles and juice pouches for kids and another tub with soft drinks and beer.

2. Set up table for food: To make meal time easier, set up a large table (or two) with the food so guests can serve themselves buffet-style. Again, this keeps folks out of your kitchen and you don’t have to individually serve each plate. A centerfold table is great, because you can easily store it when not in use!

3.Have game/toy stations for kids: While adults are content to just hang out and converse with one another, the little ones will appreciate some games and toys. Set up a few stations in your backyard (i.e., jump ropes, bubbles, bean bag toss, nature find, etc.) for kids to explore and play. This combination outdoor game set is perfect for such an occasion!

4. Set up a lawn blanket for kids to play or eat on: A lawn blanket or large picnic blanket is a great idea for the little ones! They can easily sit down to eat on the blanket or use it for playing amongst themselves. Try this affordable machine-washable, water-repellent lawn blanket from Walmart!

5. Provide sunscreen: Here in Florida, especially, providing sunscreen during an outside gathering is a thoughtful gesture. Your guests are sure to thank you for taking that extra step to help them protect their family’s skin and kids will be more apt to put on sunscreen with fun characters like the Minions!

5 Tips for Hosting a Large Family Gathering in Your Backyard!

Planning and hosting a large family gathering doesn’t have to be stressful. With these simple tips, your next backyard gathering is sure to be a blast and you’ll actually be able to enjoy it! Plus, think of all the great memories your children will make!

When was the last time you had a backyard family gathering? Does your family get together often?
