Festive Holiday Place Setting for a Special Christmas (Eve) Touch

There are few instances where I remember my mom pulling out her fine china – big (extended) family get-togethers for special occasions like baptisms and Christmas. This was when large amounts of people were expected to come (as in around 50+). When it was more informal and immediate family, my mom had no problem using her everyday dinnerware, or even plastic ware. The important thing for us was to enjoy our time as a family during the holidays. To that end, I do the same. Truth be told, I have never hosted a large holiday party beyond immediate family, so much like my mami, I’ve never used anything other than plastic or everyday dinnerware.

This Christmas, however, we won’t be able to spend it with my mom, so though my initial instincts were to dress it all down even further, I decided to do the exact opposite. Our family of four is going to have a little fun adding an extra special touch to our Christmas Eve celebration. Why not, right? I’m going to make sure we have our traditional Puerto Rican Nochebuena meal and found some festive holiday plates at Walmart that will look great on our table.

Festive Holiday Dinnerware from Better Homes and Gardens

The Walmart Better Homes and Gardens line has a lovely array of holiday dinnerware, both traditional red and green and the style that I liked – metallic silver and gold. I picked up a few plates to mix and match in various sizes. I love the whimsical designs and how they all coordinate with each other to create a festive look that’s in-line with our modern decorative style. Specifically, I purchased the 10″ porcelain dinner plate with metallic rim ($4.47), the 8″ porcelain star salad plate ($3.42), an 8″ metallic tree salad plate, and adorable tree appetizer plates. I also picked up a Better Homes and Gardens metallic red tablecloth to complete our Christmas Eve table! I’m excited for Nochebuena and love how our holiday place setting all came together!
