Afraid of the dark – already?

Ah – the joys of parenthood…

Just when things were going smoothly and baby girl seemed to be having no problems – a new one arises!

My 9 (almost 10) month old daughter recently started waking up around 5 am (used to be 6) and just starts crying. She doesn’t stop when either daddy or mommy holds her and pushes away from us.

If we put her down, she doesn’t start to play either – just keeps crying. We can’t seem to console her at all.

She calms down eventually, but it seems that turning the light on helps her to calm down. She has a night-light in her room, but lately has been sleeping the latter part of the night in our room with no night-light.

Could she be afraid of the dark? At such a young age?

It’s so hard not to be able to stop her from crying and not knowing what’s wrong! I really hope this little stage passes over quick – then on to the next one. :sigh:
