@mommy to 2, I know many moms whose 3 or 4 yo girls watch those shows. I don't get it. I'm glad there's a group of us out there that can at least recognize we need to wait a few more years before they watch them. And good for you that your 6 yo doesn't watch it yet! :)

I totally agree and have hoped to find others who feel this way about preschoolers watching Hannah Montana and other Disney big kid shows (including High School musical). I have a 6 yr. old and 3yr. old and I do not allow them to watch those shows yet. People wonder why their kids are super sassy and don't want to play little girl things anymore...hello! it's the tweenage shows they watch. I am amazed at how many of my friends allow their preschoolers to indulge and be influenced by these shows. I hope oneday they say, hey she was smart not to let her kids get into all that so young.

@Knwill, I was watching an episode of Wife Swap the other day and the new mom was having a pampering party with the girls. The dad walked in the room and told the girls "that's the stuff that ugly people use to make themselves pretty" (about the make up). I just started laughing cause I thought it was a great way for him to let them know they didn't need it at such a young age. LOL

I think the problem is that the media gives girls such a false image of what femaleness and femininity is and they start defining it as these superficial and artificial things. Like having on nail polish or makeup or these type of clothes or chasing after boys, etc. And unfortunately some parents buy into that as well. For instance, my husband and I always remark on some of the clothing choices that adults will put on their children, why can't children dress like children anymore? The problem is when the parents buy into these artificial concepts, then the children do, and then everyone's wondering at 16 what all went wrong.

I also think it was a very bad move for Miley Cyrus to be in a relationship sanctioned by her parents with an adult and to be in that kind of spotlight.

@Amy@UWM, I actually have no problem with the character or the actress herself. I just can't allow it at this age. We'll talk in a few years when it becomes age appropriate.
