My girl loves, loves, loves to read. As such, we’re always checking out books from the library or purchasing new ones for her to enjoy. She already loves many children’s book series, but one she had not yet explored is the Dear Dumb Diary series. To be honest, she was very hesitant to do so because of the word ‘dumb’ in the series’ title – she feared there’d be more inappropriate language in the books and wasn’t sure she should read them. Knowing that sometimes books use specific language to portray the character and that it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s inappropriate, I presented the opportunity to read one of the books together, discuss anything questionable, and make it a learning opportunity.
She loved the idea of reading Dear Dumb Diary together and agreed to give the series a chance. Plus, when I told her the books had been made into a movie we could also watch together, it became even more exciting for her! I’m going to let her tell you in her own words what she thought about Dear Dumb Diary #6: The Problem With Here Is That It’s Where I’m From, the book we read together. Read on for her thoughts and to learn more about the movie premiering on the Hallmark Channel tomorrow!
Kids’ Review of Dear Dumb Diary
Dear Dumb Diary is a very humorous book. A character I like is Aunt Carol; she’s really funny and makes up thinks. You would want to read this book when you’re around 7 or 8 years old, but I think you would also like it if you were older.
